PERU Part 1, exploring the Northern and Central Highlands.
For those who crave adventure beyond the usual tourist trails, Northern Peru and the Central Highlands offer an unforgettable journey through rugged terrain, ancient cultures, and dramatic landscapes. The Peru part 1 Video compilation below took us deep into the Andes, uncovering breathtaking scenery, remote villages, and humbling reminders of nature’s raw power. And not for the faint of heart, but for those seeking off road adventure, history, and unspoiled natural beauty, they deliver in ways few places can.
We tackled the rugged tracks in the Cordillera Blanca. Enjoying breathtaking panoramas. Canon Del Pato was another highlight of this leg, tested both nerves and driving skills with its 35 tunnels, each just wide and high enough for our truck. Here, the Cordillera Blanca and Cordillera Negra meet, separated by a mere 15 meters. Another amazing place we visited was Lake Peron.
Our route through the Central Highlands was no less spectacular. This road is an absolute must for those with time and an adventurous spirit, providing a glimpse into hidden pockets of tradition and breathtaking scenery far from the usual tourist haunts. This route North East out of Lima offered access to some of Peru’s most remote and culturally rich villages. This road is an absolute must for those interested in off road driving.
One of the most poignant stops on our route was Yungay, a town forever changed by the devastating 1970 earthquake. When a magnitude 8 quake shook the region, a massive chunk of Mount Huascarán’s glacier broke free, unleashing an avalanche of ice and rock that buried the town and claimed 23,000 lives.
