GENERAL INFORMATION

Ghana, Officially called the Republic of Ghana, it is bordered by Côte d’Ivoire to the west, Burkina Faso to the north, Togo to the east, and the Gulf of Guinea to the south. The country’s capital city, Accra, is a lively coastal metropolis. English is the official language, while numerous local languages such as Akan, Ewe, Ga, and Dagbani are widely spoken across different regions.

Ghana has a fascinating history that dates back centuries. It became the first sub-Saharan African country to gain independence from colonial rule on March 6, 1957, under the leadership of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. Today, Ghana is recognized as one of Africa’s politically stable nations and continues to play an important role in regional peace, trade, and economic development. The country’s economy is driven by agriculture, mining, oil production, manufacturing, and new upcoming tourism. Ghana is also one of the world’s leading producers of cocoa and gold.

The country is home to more than 30 million people from over 100 ethnic groups. Ghanaian culture is deeply rooted in family values, respect for elders, and community spirit. Traditional music and dance remain an essential part of everyday life, like the rest of Africa.

The bustling capital of Accra features attractions such as Independence Square, the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, vibrant arts and crafts markets, and beautiful Atlantic beaches. Along the coast, Cape Coast Castle and Elmina Castle stand as powerful reminders of the transatlantic slave trade and are recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Overlanders will love Kakum National Park, famous for its rainforest canopy walkway suspended high above the forest floor, offering breathtaking views and opportunities to observe tropical wildlife.
