Japan Highlights JAPAN GENERAL INFORMATION VIDEO COMPILATION PHOTO GALLERY GENERAL INFORMATION Although we have never undertaken an overlanding journey through Japan, we have visited the country on various occasions for business through our import and export activities. These visits have given us the opportunity to experience Japan beyond the usual tourist perspective, while also gaining an appreciation for its culture, people, infrastructure, business environment, and unique way of life. Japan therefore remains a country we know through several business visits, even though we have not yet explored it in detail as overlanders. Japan is an island nation in the Far East of Asia, made up of 6,852 islands, with five main islands: Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu, and Okinawa. Its capital and largest city is Tokyo, with the Greater Tokyo Area home to more than 37 million people. Following World War II, Japan experienced remarkable economic growth and became the world’s second-largest economy by 1990. As of 2021, Japan ranked as the world’s third-largest economy by GDP and remains a global leader in the automotive and electronics industries. Japan is a fascinating country where ancient traditions, modern technology, and a highly organized society come together. From the bustling streets of Tokyo and Osaka to the historic temples of Kyoto, the peaceful countryside, and the scenic Japanese Alps, Japan offers a remarkable variety of experiences for visitors. The country is well known for its excellent public transportation, cleanliness, safety, distinctive cuisine, and warm hospitality.
