General Information
Nepal is a unique country. It’s ground levels vary from 60 meters to 8,848 meters above sea level with it’s highest peak in the world Mt. Everest. Nepal offers the best mountain viewing options in the world. Take a trip to Nagakot or Dhulikhel from where there are panoramic views of the Himalayas. Roughly 75 percent of the country is covered by mountains. Enjoy Kathmandu’s old bazaars, Hanuman Dhoka and Durbar Square and the old-world charm of the Kathmandu Valley. Timeless craftsmanship is evident in its temples and squares and its people are still fiercely devoted to the ways of life and faith passed on from their ancestors. Discover a lost world of towering trees and twisting vines and of lumbering rhinos. There are crocodiles, pythons, deer and brilliantly coloured birds. Explore rivers which have nearly 30% of the world’s remaining gharial population. The fish-eating crocodile has been hunted in the past for the supposed aphrodisiac qualities of its snout.Wedged between two giants, India and China, Nepal has no choice but to keep both countries happy. As a result of its years of geographic and self-imposed isolation, Nepal is on the list of least developed nations of the world. Nepal, long under the rule of hereditary prime ministers favouring a policy of isolation, remained closed to the outside world until a palace revolt in 1950 restored the crown’s authority in 1951. In 2008, however, after a decadelong period of violence and turbulent negotiation with a strong Maoist insurgency, the monarchy was dissolved, and Nepal was declared a democratic republic. Since we left Nepal 2 earthquakes hit Nepal in 2015 which left more than 9000 people dead and 21000 injured. Nyatapola is a five-storied, 30-metre tall temple in Bhaktapur, which has strangely survived at least four major earthquakes, including the April 2015 earthquake. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/April_2015_Nepal_earthquake
