Saskatchewan is known for its vast prairies, endless skies, and over 100,000 lakes and rivers. It borders Alberta, Manitoba, the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, and the U.S. states of Montana and North Dakota. Along with Alberta, it’s one of Canada’s only landlocked provinces.
A major highlight is Prince Albert National Park, covering nearly 4,000 sq km, about 200 km north of Saskatoon. Despite its name, the park’s main entrance is 80 km north of the city of Prince Albert. The only community within the park is Waskesiu Lake, located on the lake’s southern shore.
The park protects part of Canada’s southern boreal forest and is home to wildlife like timber wolves, black bears, coyotes, moose, elk, woodland caribou, and deer. It’s also notable for its growing herd of over 400 plains bison, making it a unique and vital conservation area.
